1. Article Marketing - This is definitely the poor man's way of marketing but can be very lucrative if you are consistent in writing.
Most newbie marketers quit too early; don't just write 5-10 articles, get no sales then give up. Make a goal to do at least 100, 500, or even 1000 articles. Say you get 1 visitor per article, converting at 2% will get you about 20 sales or $400+/day. Not bad! Make a plan and stick to it, say 1 article a day, or 10 a week. Slow and steady will win this race.

2. Pay Per Click - PPC is definitely high risk high reward. I know personal affiliates making 6 figures a month just with PPC alone. But like all business models you need to start small and build your way up. The foundation of all PPC campaigns is your keywords and ad group structure.
Many newbie affiliates fail here. They go to some popular keyword software that spits out the same keywords that everyone else is using copy and paste. Spend some time thinking of keyword groups and ideas. Take a whole afternoon and brainstorm. You will be surprised and what you may come up with.

An excellent site for 'theming' keywords is KWmap check it out. Again use google's keyword tool or keyword discovery for keyword ideas.
SECRET TIP #1
Although most people tell you to avoid the content network, the ROI if done right can be phenomenal! You are literally missing out on boatloads of traffic. I know personally I've gotten 40,000+ clicks a day at less than 5 cents a click on the content network for various campaigns. It is possible but takes time & focus and will not happen overnight.
SECRET TIP #2
Another secret tip is to use image ads on the content network. Much better CTR than the text ads. Make 2 of each size using photoshop or similar software with some simple headline, ad text and picture on your image ad. If you are not design savvy you can outsource this just as simple. And test, test, test.
SECRET TIP #3
Another newbie mistake is to not run the test campaign long enough. While no one likes losing money, getting 50 even 100 clicks is no where near enough data to make a conclusion. I would argue to at least get 2,000 clicks or at least 30 sales before you begin optimizing your campaign. Sometimes sales come in 'bunches' ... so don't quit too early.

Don't be narrow focused and not test out international traffic. Many affiliates forget other countries and just focus on the US. I'd say over 50% of my sales come from overseas, so include international traffic.
